I do some sort of a swim every New Years day. It is a great way to start the new year off. Organized Polar Bear swims are also great opportunities to get wet fully clothed as quite a few people do them wearing clothes so people generally don't bat an eye to you being fully clothed. I personally find the fact that it is cold out makes it feel even more naughty than usual and always have a good time. I also do it throughout the winter months as I find it to be exciting and a rush to waid into cold water fully clothed and swim. My best advice is to wear multiple layers of warm clothes as well as shoes to help stay warm and be able to stay in the water longer. Also have a change of warm dry clothes ready to change into after so you can drive home dry and warm. But be warned that after changing the water quite often calls your name again and on more than one occasion I end up jumping in a second or even third time and end up having to drive home completely soaked with the heat cranked. The best times though are the completely unplanned ones as it is a huge rush knowing that you have nothing to change into and all you can hope for is that you have a towel or even a spare jacket to sit on for the drive home.
